Our Mission
Our mission is to place families at the heart of what drives improvement in early learning.
The Early Report was founded to bring calm, evidence-based clarity to public conversations about early childhood education and care in Australia.
Families, educators, providers and policymakers deserve a clearer picture:
- What strengthens, sustains, and retains the workforce?
- What drives fees?
- What lifts safety & quality?
- What supports children’s development?
We exist to answer those questions openly, transparently and with evidence. We share the lived experience and show respect for the early childhood professionals doing the work.
We believe that:
- Every family should have real choice and flexibility.
- Educators must be respected and supported across all provider types.
- The system should be transparent enough to improve continuously.
When all three move forward together, the system is working.

Our Principles
We tell the whole truth.
We ground our reporting in lived experience and credible evidence. We avoid exaggeration and do not weaponize anecdotes.
We are brave enough to be clear.
We explain complex issues plainly. and without ideology. challenge misinformation respectfully.
We believe diversity drives improvement.
A diverse sector across communities, cultures and provider models raises standards when ideas are tested openly and evidence is shared.
We focus on outcomes.
The measure of early learning is whether children are developmentally on track and families can access care that works for them, within a sector that is sustainable and stable.
